Day one of the Latvian-Estonian national tennis teams' tournament Merks Cup in Tallinn ended with three wins for Latvia and two for the hosts, informs LETA/BNS.

Yesterday, Latvia's Karlis Ozolins beat Estonia's Vladimir Ivanov 6-1, 6-3, Anastasija Sevastova (Latvia) was defeated by Anett Kontaveit (Estonia) 1-6, 2-6. In doubles, Ernests Gulbis and Ozolins defeated Ivanov and Jurgen Zopp 7-6 (7:1), 6-4, while Jelena Ostapenko (Latvia) lost to Kaia Kanepi 3-6, 4-6. In the fifth match, Gulbis defeated Zopp 6-3, 6-4.

Today, six matches will be played at the Merks Cup exhibition tournament.

The Latvian team is made up of Ostapenko (ranked 41st in the WTA rankings), Sevastova (43rd in WTA rankings), Gulbis (162nd in ATP rankings) and Ozolins (1,133rd in ATP rankings).

The Estonian team includes Kontaveit (22nd in WTA rankings), Kanepi (99th in WTA rankings), Zopp (540th in ATP rankings) and Ivanov (738th in ATP rankings).
