Poet Juris Kronbergs passes away

 Sweden-born Latvian poet Juris Kronbergs died after a grave illness today, poetess Inese Zandere wrote on Facebook, cites LETA.


Kronbergs was born in Stockholm in the family of painter Rudolfs Kronbergs. He wrote poetry in Latvian and Swedish, as well as translated Latvian literary works into Swedish and vice versa. 

In the late 1960s and early 1970s Kronbergs was a percussionist in the Latvian expat groups Saules Brali and Dunduri. He also recorded his poetry with the psychedelic rock band Prusaku Ansamblis (Cockroach Ensemble). 


In the 1990s, Kronbergs served as a cultural attache at the Latvian Embassy in Stockholm. In 1998 he was awarded the Order of the Three Starts and in 2007 received the Annual Latvian Literature Award for his lifetime contribution to Latvian literature. In 2019 he received the award in the Poetry category for his collection of poems Uz balkona/Bet ja visu laiku... (On the Balcony / But if all the time …).
