Flu epidemic starts in Latvia

Print versionLast week the number of flu patients in Riga and Jelgava has reached the epidemic threshold, therefore the flu epidemics has been declared in Latvia starting from December 11, The Center for Disease Prevention and Control (SPKC) reported LETA.

In comparison, the flu season last year was officially declared on January 15.
Jelgava last week registered 265.5 flu cases per 100,000 residents, thus exceeding the epidemic threshold of 100 cases per 100,000 residents. In Riga, the level was at 159.8 cases per 100,000 residents last week.
