Latvian Defense Minister to visit Canada

Latvian Defense Minister Artis Pabriks will make a visit to Canada on November 21-25 to participate in Halifax International Security Forum, LETA learned from the Defense Ministry.


Pabriks will also meet with Latvian honorary consul in Nova Scotia, Canada, Ingrida Selga Sketre to discuss cooperation between both countries in defense and attend an event dedicated for Latvia's 101st anniversary.


The minister will participate in a round table discussion organization by NATO Association of Canada on the current security challenges and Canada's contribution to strengthening security in the region, especially Latvia.


Pabriks is scheduled to meet with the Latvian community in Hamilton and Toronto.

Canada is one of Latvia's main partner countries in security and defense.


The NATO Battle Group in Latvia, led by Canada, is currently made up of approximately 1,400 soldiers from Canada, Italy, Poland, Albania, Slovenia, Spain, the Czech Republic, Montenegro and Slovakia, and is one of NATO's strategies to enhance the NATO presence in the region and strengthen the region's security.
