Gorkss removed as Latvian Football Federation's president

BC, Riga, 17.10.2019.Print version

The Latvian Football Federation's (LFF) President Kaspars Gorksss was dismissed from his job during the federation's extraordinary congress on Thursday, reported LETA.

67 LFF members voted for dismissing Gorkss, 60 voted against and two abstained.

Gorkss was elected president of the LFF last year for a period of two years, replacing Guntis Indriksons in the job. According to the LFF rules, the next LFF presidential election will take place in 2020, therefore the federation will most likely continue without a president until that time.

As reported, LFF members this past September submitted a request for convening an extraordinary congress and firing the federation's president Gorkss. The letter was signed by 69 LFF members, which is more than half of the 137 registered members of the organization.

The reasons for demanding Gorkss' resignation included uncertainty about the infrastructure program implementation plan and insufficient support from the federation for infrastructure projects currently being implemented. Gorkss was also accused of having no "positive opinion from a sworn auditor, which could jeopardize the federation's status of a public benefit organization as well as its relations with international partners, the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) and the International Football Federation (FIFA)."
