Radevica hit with two-year suspension

BC, Riga, 16.08.2019.Print version

Former Latvian long-jumper Ineta Radevica has been hit with the two-year suspension, which has already come into force and passed, reported LETA.

The International Athletics Federation's Athletics Integrity Unit has informed that the suspension came into force from August 8, 2012.

Back in May of this year Radevica was officially disqualified from the 2012 London Olympic Games, where she placed fourth in the women's long-jump. This after Radevica had tested positive for doping after a second analysis of her sample from the London Olympics. Radevica tested positive for oxandrolone, an anabolic steroid.

As reported, the now 38-year-old Radevica retired from professional sports in 2012, after placing fourth at the Olympics.

As a result of the IAAF decision, Russia's Ludmila Kolchanova was moved up to fourth place at the London Olympics.

Radevica will also have to return her diploma and pin obtained in the women's long jump event at the Olympics.

Radevica won gold at the European Championships in Barcelona in 2010, setting a new national record for Latvia, 6.92 meters.

Radevica served as the president of Latvian Athletics Association from March 2017 to November 2018, but stepped down after the doping accusations against her became public.
