Latvia loses to Sweden in Women's Eurobasket Round of 16

Latvian national women's basketball team lost to Sweden 62:77 (14:23, 9:22, 17:14, 22:18) in the European Women's Basketball Championship Round of 16 match in Riga Monday night, failing to qualify for the championship's quarterfinals and the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games' qualification tournament, reported LETA/BNS. 


Sweden will now play Serbia in the championship's quarterfinals on Thursday.


Elina Dikeulaka led the Latvian team with 14 points, while Aija Brumermane had 13 points and nine rebounds.


Frida Eldebrink was the highest scorer for the Swedes with 21 points, Kalis Loyd scored 14 points, and Amanda Zahui had 12 points and ten rebounds.


After a disastrous first half, the Latvians were trailing by 23 points. Although Latvia won the third and fourth quarters each by a few points, that was not enough to win the match.


In another playoff match last night, Great Britain beat Montenegro 92:71 to face Hungary in the quarterfinals.


As reported, during the tournament's group stage Latvians had one win, over Ukraine, placing third in Group A.
