 Latvian national team goaltender Elvis Merzlikins has signed a one-year deal with the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, the club has informed, LETA.

The 25-year-old had signed an interim agreement with the club until the end of the season in March, but has now signed a one-year deal.

Last season, Merzlikins played for Swiss club Lugano, and has played in the Swiss League since the 2013/2014 season. He was named Goaltender of the Year twice while playing in the Swiss league, and was seen as one of the best goaltenders playing outside of the NHL.

The Blue Jackets selected Merzlikins with the 73rd pick in the 2014 NHL Draft.

Merzlikins is currently with the Latvian squad participating in this year's Ice Hockey World Championships, and is likely to take the ice in tonight's game versus the Czech Republic.
