Latvian weightlifter Suharevs wins bronze at European Championship

Latvian weightlifter Ritvars Suharevs won bronze at the European Weightlifting Championship in Georgia's Batumi on Wednesday, reported LETA/BNS.

Competing in the men's 81 kilograms, the 20-year-old Suharevs lifted 354 kilograms in total.


Suharevs finished first in snatch with 162 kilograms, setting a new European Under-23 record. He also set a new European Under-23 record in clean and jerk with 192 kilograms, placing fifth in clean and jerk and third overall.


Italy's Antonino Pizzolato was crowned the European champion with 356 kilograms (155+201), while Petr Asayonak of Belarus won silver with 355 kilograms (159+196).


Last year, Suharevs was crowned junior world champion in the men's 77 kilograms.


As reported, Latvia's Rebeka Koha won the gold medal at the European Weightlifting Championship on Monday, lifting a total of 221 kilograms in women's 59 kilogram category. Koha lifted 101 kilograms in snatch and 120 kilograms in clean and jerk.
