Riga Dinamo beat Severstal in OT to remain in playoff race

In a key Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) regular season game on Wednesday, Riga Dinamo defeated Cherepovets Severstal 5:4 (1:1, 2:1, 1:2, 1:0) in overtime to remain in the playoff race, informed LETA/BNS. 


Linus Videll scored the overtime winner.


However, Riga's rivals for the last playoff spot were also victorious tonight: Moscow Oblast Vityaz beat Minsk Dinamo 4:3 (2:1, 1:0, 1:2) and Sochi defeated Moscow Spartak 2:0 (1:0, 0:0, 1:0).


With just one game remaining in the KHL regular season, Riga Dinamo are currently one point short of making the playoffs. Vityaz have one point more than Dinamo and Sochi have two points more. In their last regular season matches on Friday, Riga Dinamo will take on Moscow CSKA, Vityaz will play Yekateriniburg Avtomobilist and Sochi - Bratislava Slovan.


In tonight's match, Lauris Darzins scored twice for Riga, and Andris Dzerins and Rihards Marenis scored one goal each. On the other hand, Ivan Nikolishin, Vladislav Kodola, Ivan Lekomtsev and Bogdan Yakimov scored the goals for the Severstal.


Riga Dinamo are currently in ninth place in the KHL Western Conference standings with 62 points from 61 games, while the Severstal are in tenth place with 49 points.
