The Lithuanian Cabinet gave on Wednesday the green light for setting up the post of defense attaché at the country's embassy in Moldova, reported LETA/BNS. 

According to the government, this will ensure a direct supply of information to the Defense Ministry and other bodies in charge of Lithuanian national security, enhance the country's representation in Moldova's defense and security bodies, and ensure proper implementation of the functions of NATO's contact embassy.  

"It is intended to actively support the aspirations of the Republic of Moldova to implement Western defense reforms and strengthen cooperation and interaction with NATO, as well as bilateral defense cooperation between Lithuania and Moldova," it said in a document. 

The defense attaché office in Moldova will cost Lithuania around 150,000 euros annually. 

Moldova was one of the most active EU and NATO aspirants in Eastern Europe some time ago, but its progress in this area has slowed down in recent years.
