The Latvian Football Federation has come to terms with the new head coach of the Latvian national football team, but will only reveal his identity on March 1, reported LETA/BNS.

The LFF informs that it has agreed to a three-year deal with the coach, but will not reveal his identity for confidentiality reasons.

The Latvian football squad will play its first two EURO 2020 qualifiers at the end of March.

As reported, Finnish specialist Mixu Paatelainen stepped down as the head coach of the Latvian national football team in December.

A verbal agreement had previously been made for the coach to take the reigns of the national team until the end of the UEFA League of Nations tournament, with the opportunity to extend the contract until the end of the UEFA EURO 2020 qualifying campaign.

The 51-year-old Paatelainen had previously expressed the desire to remain if the Latvian Football Federation wished for him to continue, but has since decided to leave.

The Latvian squad finished in third place in its UEFA League of Nations D Division group.

The Finnish specialist has previously worked on the coaching staff of the Scottish national football team, as well as coached clubs in Scotland, Finland, England and France. He is also a former Finnish national team player.
