A committee, which was formed to find a suitable location for a monument to Estonia's first president Konstantin Pats in the city of Tallinn, decided to choose the area of Tammsaare Park in the city center that is located between the Estonia Opera House and Concert Hall and Parnu Road from among three options that made it to the final round, informs LETA/BNS.

This way, the monument will be visible in public space, while also having a meaningful connection with both the political events that took place in the same place in 1905, in which Pats played a significant role, as well as with the opera house and concert hall, on the premises of which meetings were held a hundred years ago with Pats' participation in order to plan the declaration of the Republic of Estonia, spokespeople for the Tallinn city government told.

In addition to Tammsaare Park, the other two options that made it to the final round were the area near the intersection of Narva Road, Koleri Street and Vesivarava Street as a gate to the Kadriorg district and the Ravala Street breakthrough area at the intersection of Parnu Road, Suda Street and Sakala Street.

The committee weighed altogether over 10 different location proposals, which were submitted both by committee members and the public.

As the next step, the idea competition for the monument will be prepared, while the authors of the park's project will also be consulted beforehand on all circumstances to do with the location of the monument.

Andrei Novikov served as chairman of the committee and Ignar Fjuk as deputy chair, while members of the committee included Jaak Juske, Jaak Joeruut, Tonu Kaljuste, Siim Kallas, Mart Kalm, Kadri Kousaar, Harry Liivrand, Endrik Mand and Rein Veidemann. Participating experts included Urmas Kaldaru, Juri Kuuskemaa, Heie Treier and Trivimi Velliste.
