Latvia's Anastasija Sevastova was defeated by world number two Caroline Wozniacki (Denmark) 3-6, 3-6 in the final match at the China Open on Sunday, informed LETA.

Sevastova has earned 650 WTA ranking points in Beijing and moved up to 12th place in the new WTA rankings released today, reclaiming the title of Latvia's highest-ranked tennis player from Alona Ostapenko.

In the first set, Wozniacki broke Sevastova in the sixth game and went on to win the set 6-3. She built a 4-1 lead in the second set when Sevastova had a break point and converted. Wozniacki was close to losing her serve again in the eighth game, but the Dane eventually held to lead 5-3 and then took the next game to win the match.

"She didn't give me any presents. It was tough. Maybe I was not consistent finishing the points sometimes. That was a deal, making more mistakes than necessary," Sevastova said after the match, while Wozniacki praised Sevastova for being a "really tricky opponent".

Sevastova had 35 unforced errors over the course of the match and converted on just one of eight break points she had.

In the latest WTA rankings, Ostapenko is now ranked 18th, down from 13th place last week. This week, Ostapenko will participate in the Hong Kong Open tennis tournament. She will play Slovakia's Kristina Kucova in the first round of the tournament today.
