Latvia's reigning basketball champions Ventspils have been drawn into the Basketball Champions League's Group A together with basketball clubs from Turkey, Italy, France, Poland and Germany, informs LETA.

During the draw on Wednesday, it was determined that Group A will include, besides Ventspils, Bandirma Banvit (Turkey), Avellino Sidigas (Italy), Ludwigsburg MHP Riesen (Germany), Le Mans Sarthe Basket (France), and Wloclawek Anwil (Poland). They will be joined by two more teams after the third qualification round.

Anwil and Le Mans won their respective national championships last year. MHP Riesen stopped at Bundesliga semifinals, and Banvit at the semifinals of the Turkish Basketball Championship. Avellino won the Italian Basketball Cup last season and placed second at FIBA Europe Cup.

The 2018-19 Basketball Champions League competition will consist of 32 teams divided into four groups. 26 teams are directly qualified for the regular season, with the last six teams set to qualify through three qualification rounds.

The regular season will start on November 9 and close on February 6.

Last season, Ventspils placed fifth in its group and continued to play in the FIBA Eurocup tournament, failing to reach the tournament's quarterfinals.
