Sotnieks returns to Riga Dinamo

Latvian national team defenseman Kristaps Sotnieks has signed with Latvian ice hockey club Riga Dinamo, the club has informed LETA.

The 31-year-old Sotnieks returns to the Latvian club after playing for Russian ice hockey club Tolyatti Lada the past two season.

Sotnieks played for Dinamo eight season before signing with the Russian club.

In 476 career matches in the Kontinental Ice Hockey League, the defenseman has scored 29 goals and made 55 assists.

Sotnieks was a co-captain on the Latvian national men's ice hockey team at this year's Ice Hockey World Championships, where he made two assists.

He has represented Latvia in ten World Championships and two Olympics.

Meanwhile, Riga Dinamo finished in last place in the KHL's Western Conference standings this past season, failing to qualify for the KHL playoffs for the fourth season in a row.
