Latvia loses to Canada in OT
BC, Riga, 15.05.2018.Print version
The Latvian national men's ice hockey team put up a brave fight against star studded Canada at the Ice Hockey World Championships, losing only in overtime 2:1, reports LETA.
This was just the second time ever Latvia has earned a point at the World Championships against Canada, the previous time in 1997 - a 3:3 draw.
Kristians Rubins scored the goal in the third period to tie the Canadians and force the overtime. It was also his first ever goal for the Latvian national team.
Anthony Beauvillier scored the regulation goal for Canada, with Connor McDavid scoring the OT winner.
Latvia will play its final match of the tournament tonight against Denmark. A win would put them through to the quarterfinals.
