Commander of the Estonian defense forces Gen. Riho Terras on Tuesday inspected the Talvelaager 2018 (Wintercamp 2018) exercise, which concluded at the central training ground of the defense forces, informs LETA/BNS.

Almost a thousand personnel from the Estonian Scouts Battalion, the NATO battle group and the Kaitseliit (Defense League) volunteer corps of Estonia took part in the ten-day exercise.

"Estonian winter with its snow and decent amount of cold offers us a good opportunity to put units and their equipment to a test, which for sure is a very new and extraordinary experience for our allies," Terras said according to spokespeople.

He said that during the exercise, members of the Estonian defense forces worked closely with the allies on the command post level.

The exercise focusing on winter warfare was divided into two phases, during the first of which participants practiced warfare under winter conditions within units. In the second phase, which started on Feb. 10, troops practiced defense battle and attacking on the company level.

Volunteers from the Sakala and Tallinn districts of Kaitseliit joined the exercise for the weekend.

In addition top Estonia military personnel and volunteers, and personnel from the U.K. and Denmark, almost 200 units of various equipment, including Challenger main battle tanks, CV9035 and Warrior infantry fighting vehicles and Pasi armored personnel carriers took part in the exercise.
