Tennis player Alona Ostapenko, TechHub Riga head Andris Berzins and stage director and playwright Krista Burane are the three finalists shortlisted for the European of the Year in Latvia title, LETA was told at the European Movement in Latvia, the NGO organizing the annual competition.

The public voting in which the European of the Year in Latvia is chosen kicked off on October 28, 2017. Today, the voting enters its final round in which the winner of the title will be chosen from the shortlist of the three remaining candidates.

Earlier, a shortlist of five candidates also included Constitutional Court chairwoman Ineta Ziemele and Olympic champion in skeleton, Martins Dukurs.

The final round of the online vote will end on December 27.

The title of the European of the Year in Latvia is awarded to the person who has provided the most significant contribution to strengthening links between Latvia and the rest of Europe, raising Latvia's profile in Europe and integrating European values in Latvia.
