Finsterwalde in Germany names new street after its Latvian sister town Salaspils
Finsterwalde, a town in eastern Germany, has named its newest street after
its Latvian sister town Salaspils, the Salaspils local council announced, cites LETA.
A municipal delegation from Salaspils visited Finsterwalde last week to
participate in the official street-naming ceremony.
The German partners have shown Salaspils a great honor by naming a street
after their Latvian sister town, said the Mayor of Salaspils, Raimonds Cudars.
"It is a great honor and a gift," he said.
Salaspils Street in Finsterwalde is 1,292 meters long, and it took the town
two years to complete the construction. The street now is the swiftest and the
most convenient route for the townspeople to reach the nearest Autobahn, and
they have already come up with a joke that the shortest route to the closest
city is via Latvia.
The street signs show the emblem of Salaspils, the Latvian national flag
and inform that Salaspils and Finsterwalde had been sister towns since 2002.
