An infantry platoon consisting of the conscripts of Estonian 2nd Infantry Brigade's Kuperjanov infantry battalion this weekend is to participate in the military exercise Sword to be held in Aluksne, Latvia, reports LETA.

The exercise is organized by the 3rd Brigade of the Latvian volunteer defense corps Zemessardze and the Estonian infantry platoon is to also operate as part of the brigade during the exercise, spokespeople at the headquarters of the Estonian defense forces said. The exercise is to focus on defense activities and practicing multi-level command.

"The 2nd Infantry Brigade is tightly cooperating with the 2nd and 3rd Brigade of Zemessardze located nearby. Participating in one another's exercises is part of the cooperation," commander of the 2nd Infantry Brigade, Col. Eero Rebo, said.

Participants are to practice interoperability both with international as well as Zemessardze's units and other territorial defense units.

Lithuania and the United States will also be represented with their units.
