New Dublin Voices wins second International Baltic Sea Choir Competition

Irish choir New Dublin Voices has won the Grand Prix at the second International Baltic Sea Choir Competition as well as the Jurmala City Council's monetary prize of EUR 3,500, the competition's public relations officer Inga Vasiljeva told LETA.


Koper Music School's girls choir from Slovenia placed second, and Harlanda Chamber Choir (Sweden) third, which also took monetary prizes worth EUR 2,000 and EUR 1,000 respectively.


Emils Darzins Mixed Choir conductor Nora Vitina was honored as the best conductor, while Koper Music School's girls choir also won the award for the best interpretation of Eriks Esenvalds' opus Lux Aeterna, which was this year's compulsory composition.


After the first day of the competition, five choirs advanced to the finals: Swedish men's choir Svanholm Singers and Harlanda Chamber Choir, New Dublin Voices, Emils Darzins Mixed Choir, and Koper Music School's girls choir.


The other participants in this year's competition were mixed choir Grex Musicus (Finland), mixed choir Crescendo (Slovenia), mixed choir Vox Iuvenalis (Czech Republic), mixed choir Harmony (Russia), Tartu Student's Choir, and Latvia's Austrums and Art Museum Riga Bourse male choir.
