Radevica voted in as new president of Latvian Athletics Association
Former Latvian long-jumper Ineta Radevica was convincingly voted in as the new president of the Latvian Athletics Association during a congress today, LETA has found out.
There were two candidates - current LAA president Guntis Zalitis, and Radevica.
Radevica received 51 votes, while Zalitis received 18 votes.
The 35-year-old Radevica retired from professional sports in 2012 and is seen as one of Latvia's best-ever track-and-field athletes.
Radevica won silver in the women's long-jump at the 2011 World Championships and placed fourth at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
She also holds the Latvian record in the women's long-jump - 6.92 meters, which she set at the 2010 European Championships, where she won the gold medal.
Zalitis, meanwhile, has been the president of the LAA since 2005.
