Madama Butterfly staged by Latvian director Alvis Hermanis to premiere at La Scala tonight

Print versionA production of Giacomo Puccini's opera Madama Butterfly, staged by Latvian director Alvis Hermanis, is set to premiere at La Scala opera house tonight, with Culture Minister Dace Melbarde also expected to attend the performance, the minister's spokeswoman Ginta Bromane told LETA.
Hermanis' production of Madama Butterfly is scheduled to open the new season at the historic 18th century opera house in Milan. Hermanis worked on the production with a creative team which includes costume designer Kristine Jurjane, choreographer Alla Sigalova and video artist Ineta Sipunova, among others.
The premiere of the opera production will be broadcast live at the Splendid Palace movie theater in Riga.
