Estonia to allow 12 state museums to sell ad space

BC, Tallinn, 17.10.2016.Print version

A draft regulation has exited the Estonian Ministry of Culture that would allow 12 state owned museums to sell advertising space in their territory, online environments and printed materials.

The amendment to the regulation of the minister of culture would add advertisements to the fee-charging services deemed as being related to the core activity of a state owned museum.

Fee-charging services provided by a state museum, including the sale of advertising, must not get in the way of the museum's core activity and must be connected with it. The ads displayed on the advertising spaces of a museum must in no way influence the content of the museum's activities, its exhibits and program, it stands in the covering letter accompanying the draft regulation.

Additional own revenue generated will enable museums to direct more funds towards their core activity and its development, the Ministry of Culture finds.

The 12 museums to be allowed to sell ad space are the Estonian History Museum, the Museum of Estonian Architecture, the Estonian Maritime Museum, the Estonian National Museum, the Estonian Museum of Applied Art and Design, the Estonian Theater and Music Museum, the Harju County Museum, the Oskar Luts Parish Museum at Palamuse, Rannarootsi Museum, Saaremaa Museum, the Tartu Art Museum and Viljandi Museum.
