Two Latvians cross Atlantic Ocean

BC, Riga, 23.09.2016.Print version

Two Latvian residents have finally reached Brazil, having crossed the Atlantic Ocean on a row boat, according to a Facebook post of Latvian journalist Sandijs Semjonovs informs LETA.

They started their trip five months ago. Their initial goal was to travel from Namibia to Rio de Janeiro, the home town of the Summer Olympic Games in 90 days. Due to different obstacles, they reached the coast this week – a week after the Paralympic Games ended.

The trip started from Namibia in southern Africa. The weather conditions not always were favorable for rowing. Even during the last days of their trip, they had to wait in the ocean until the wind turns in their favor.

This has not been the only challenge for the Latvians. One of the project participants, Karlis, together with three other enthusiasts in February 2014 traveled from Riga to Sochi, the venue of the Winter Olympic Games, in 17 days.
