In Kontinental Ice Hockey League (KHL) action on Thursday, Latvian national team forward Kaspars Daugavins helped his Nizhny Novgorod Torpedo take down Latvian ice hockey club Riga Dinamo 0:2.

Daugavins scored a goal and made an assist, as Dinamo was unable to score a goal in the match.

With the loss, Dinamo has lost its first two matches of the season, with its next match on Saturday at Russian ice hockey club Moscow Spartak.

It is interesting to point out that Torpedo is coached by Latvian duo Peteris Skudra and Girts Ankipans.

Last season, Dinamo finished in overall 12th place in the Western Conference standings, failing to qualify for the KHL playoffs for the second season in a row.

A total of 29 team from eight countries will be playing in the KHL this season - Russia, Latvia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Finland, Slovakia, Croatia and China.

The KHL's regular season will conclude on February 18.
