Strombergs fails to reach BMX semifinals at Rio

Print versionDouble defending champion Maris Strombergs of Latvia failed to reach the BMX semifinals at the Rio 2016 Olympics today, which means he will not win his third title this time.
Edzus Treimanis, another Latvian BMX rider, did not qualify for the semifinals either.
Strombergs won 14 points in the quarterfinals, or as many as two other competitors, but Swiss rider David Graf had a better overall score, which left Strombergs out of the semifinal.
Treimanis earned 15 points in the quarterfinal heats, which left him one point short from progressing to the semifinals.
The semifinal and final races of the Olympic BMS competition will take place on Friday.
