BC, Vilnius, 27.06.2016.Print version

Over 100 persons have moved to Lithuania under the government's program for the relocation of Ukrainians of Lithuanian origin and their families from war-struck regions in Eastern Ukraine, the Interior Ministry reported LETA/BNS.

"Based on information from the Migration Department under the Interior Ministry, 124 persons have to date moved to Lithuania from the Donetsk and Luhansk regions and Crimea," the minister said in its response to BNS.

The government made its decision to relocate Ukrainians of Lithuanian origin from Donetsk and Luhansk and the Russia-annexed Crimea region in late July 2015.

Under the program, such persons and their families are entitled to temporary housing and social benefits in Lithuania and are offered Lithuanian language courses and vocational training.

An estimated 10,000 persons of Lithuanian origin live in Ukraine, in addition to about 1,500 Lithuanian citizens officially registered in the country.
