Latvian President Raimonds Vejonis is successfully recovering from a heart surgery and has returned to some of his duties while still staying in the Cardiac Surgical Ward of the Pauls Stradins Clinical University Hospital, informs LETA.

The President's health condition keeps improving and the latest medical tests show that the infection is under control, the President's Office said in a statement.

"Continuing further recovery in the Cardiac Surgical Ward, the President is performing some current duties,” the statement says.

Doctors last week concluded that Vejonis can be transferred out of the intensive care unit (ICU). He will continue treatment at the Cardiac Surgical Ward and will gradually return to his presidential duties.

On January 20, the Latvian president underwent emergency heart surgery at the Pauls Stradins Clinical University Hospital. Medics eliminated the source of a sepsis infection in his heart, replacing one of the heart valves with an artificial one.
