Chamber orchestra "Sinfonietta Riga" season's opening concert took place on September, at 12, 7:30 p.m. at the Great Guild and presents Austrian composers' music.

The concert was conducted by the orchestra's artistic director, Normunds Sne, who underlined in a press conference today that the choice of this concert's repertoire reflects the basic principle of the orchestra's artistic strategy – to be open to various styles of music.

Programme: Franz Schubert's "Symphony II", Arnold Schönberg's "First Chamber Symphony" and Gustav Mahler's popular cycle "Songs of a Wayfarer", which the Sinfonietta Riga will perform together with the brilliant Stockholm-born baritone Gabriel Suovanen.

On March 2008, the chamber orchestra Sinfonietta Riga, which was founded in 2006, received its first significant music award – the Latvian Grand Music Award for outstanding and versatile concert programme in year 2007.
