'The Throne' wins international competition program at Tallinn Dark Nights Film Festival

"The Throne" ("Sado") by South Korean director Lee Joon-ik has won the Grand Prix of the 19th Tallinn Dark Nights Film Festival that ended on November 27th, reports LETA.

 

Described by the jury as a genuinely Shakespearean tragedy, "The Throne" is a gripping historical drama set during the Joseon dynasty and recounting a notorious episode from the history of Korea in 1762.

 

The value of the award for the winner of the international competition is 10,000 euros.

 

The Tridens award for the best film was won by the Estonian film "The Fencer" ("Vehkleja").

 

The best director award went to the Ukrainian award-winning director and activist Vitaliy Manskiy for his film "Under the Sun", a documentary about the hardships of making a documentary in North Korea. 

 

The award for the best actor went to Isaka Sawadogo for his role in the Netherlands-Sweden-Bulgaria co-production "The Paradise Suite" and the award for the best actress to Martha Canga Antonio for her role in the Belgian film "Black."

 

Wojciech Staron won the best cinematography award for his work on "Dawn" ("Ausma"), a Latvia-Estonia co-production.
