Labour Party gives Vilnius mayor a corkscrew

BC, Vilnius, 04.09.2015.Print version

On Friday morning, representatives of the Labour Party gave Vilnius Mayor Remigijus Simasius a corkscrew, which, according to them, is a symbol of the municipality's failure to solve the traffic jam problems in the capital city of Lithuania, informs LETA/ELTA.

On Thursday, the traffic in Vilnius centre went chaotic as preparations for the upcoming Vilnius Days (Vilniaus Dienos) events were organised poorly and the main city street – Gedimino Avenue – was shut down for cars due to installation mounting works.

"It was just a single occurrence, but it says a lot. Instead of performing mounting works in the night when the traffic in Vilnius is very light, it was decided to do it during the rush hour. Mayor himself had repeatedly emphasised the traffic jam problem in the city when people waste their time in cars, pollute the environment etc. We are giving him a corkscrew so that he does not forget his promises," Vytautas Gabsys, deputy chairman of the Labour Party, says.
