As of Tuesday, the Estonian Ministry of Agriculture continues to work as the Ministry of Rural Affairs, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

Minister for Rural Affairs Urmas Kruuse explained that the Ministry of Agriculture has always in addition to agriculture, fisheries and food safety worked on rural life issues. "By reshaping the ministry into the Ministry of Rural Affairs, we stress that at the state level, developments in rural areas have to be seen from a broader aspect," he said.

Kruuse added that next year, several regional programmes will be transferred to the ministry, and activities of the government's action program for 2015 to 2019 will be added.
