Sigulda Opera Music Festival begins today

The 22nd International Sigulda Opera Music Festival will continue in Sigulda today to August 2, featuring acclaimed Latvian and foreign opera singers, as Sigulda Region Council's public relations officer Liena Jurkane told LETA.

 

The festival's opening concert will be at the Sigulda Medieval Castle at 7 p.m. Participating in the concert will be Latvian opera singers Kalvis Kalnins, Dinara Rudane, Andzella Goba, Liene Kinca, Krisjanis Norvelis, Romans Polisadovs, Andris Ludvigs, Rihards Macanovskis, as well as the festival orchestra, men's choir "Logos", and the festival's choir.

 

The "Young Talents" concert will be tomorrow at 3 p.m. in the Sigulda New Castle garden – performances by the up and coming opera artists.

 

Director Guntis Gailitis ' open-air production of Arvids Zilinskis' opera "Zelta zirgs" (Golden Horse) will be at 9 p.m. on Saturday, with Atvars Lakstigala conducting. Cast: Janis Kursevs, Jolanta Strikaite, Janis Apeinis, Andris Ludvigs, Juris Adamsons, Andris Lapins, Kristine Gailite, Irma Pavasare, Aira Rurane, Krisjanis Norvelis, Liene Lasmane and others. Set and costume design by Krista and Reinis Dzudzilo.

 

On Sunday at 1 p.m., Emils Darzins' songs will be performed by Miervaldis Jencs and Antra Bigaca in Sigulda Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Sigulda Opera Music Festival's closing concert will be at 6 p.m., featuring Argentine tenor Marcelo Alvarez and French mezzo-soprano Clementine Margaine.

 

Also this year, the festival's program includes a great variety of other events – a guitar concert, wine-testing events, performances, exhibitions, and much more.
