First pilgrims leave for Aglona today

Today, the first pilgrims begin their journey to Aglona, where Virgin Mary Ascension celebrations will be held on August 14.

 

According to the katedrale.lv portal, the first pilgrims traditionally leave for Aglona from Liepaja. They will reach Aglona on July 13.

 

The next pilgrims to leave for Aglona will be residents of Valmiera and Jelgava, who will hit the road on July 30, as Ingrida Lisenkova, head of the Latvian Roman Catholic Church's Information Center, told LETA.

 

Catholic pilgrims from Riga will leave for Aglona on August 1, Brukna pilgrims on August 2, and pilgrims from Gulbene on August 3.

 

On August 5, a group of National Armed Forces soldiers and Home Guard members will leave from Kadaga to Aglona. This is the second year in a row the Armed Forces organizes soldiers' pilgrimage to Aglona.

 

A group of cyclists from Talsi will leave for Aglona on August 6, believers from Vilaka will leave on August 7, Ludza and Balvi – August 8, Sigulda, Barkava, Vecvarkava – August 9, and Daugavpils and Kraslava – August 10.
