Latvian basketball coach Nikolajs Mazurs has been confirmed as the new head coach of the Russian basketball club Moscow "Dynamo", the basketball club reports, cites LETA.

According to "Dynamo", a long-term contract has been signed with the Latvian.

"I wish to thank my previous club "VEF Riga", where I have been working for eight years and that offered me excellent growth and development opportunities," said Mazurs. "The offer from the "Dynamo" is a new challenge for me, not only as a coach but also as an organizer."

"Dynamo" President Gore Khechoyan said that he had been following Mazurs' coaching career for several years. "For the past five years, we have been following Mazurs' coaching career. He learned valuable experience during this period, and I am pleased that we have succeeded at hiring him," he said, adding that the club was not expecting wonders from Mazurs, and was planning a long-term cooperation with the Latvian coach.

As reported, earlier this month Mazurs decided to part ways with the Latvian basketball club "VEF Riga". According to the club, Spanish specialist Carlos Frade will become the club's new head coach.

Mazurs had been a part of the "VEF Riga" coaching staff since 2007, and the head coach of the Latvian club for the past several seasons.
