Public and Military Day will come to Marijampole for first time

BC, Vilnius, 28.04.2015.Print version

Partisan Tributing, Public and Military Day that scored over 10 thousand participants last year in Vilnius, will invite all the people of Lithuania to Marijampole on May 17, the Ministry of National Defence reported LETA/ELTA.

The largest annual public-military event will give the public an opportunity to see all the services of the Lithuanian Armed Forces in the city centre of Marijampole this year. The Lithuanian Land Force will be involved particularly numerously – from a handgun to an artillery gun, from an all-terrain vehicle to an armoured vehicle, every aspect of infantry warfare will be presented to the public.

Everyone wishing to test themselves as newbie recruits will be invited to join the Enrol for One Day camp were the most basic and important military knowledge will be available minus the requirement of prior training. Military engineers will present equipment for mine neutralisation and protection against weapons of mass destruction, while fighters of the Mechanised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf will invite viewers to stop by at a tactical headquarters – the place from where command and control for the entire brigade is provided during battle.

All the NATO rotating forces currently deployed in Lithuania will also be presented at the event. US, German and Portuguese military personnel will be neighbours with the Lithuanian Land Force and representatives of the Norwegian and Italian air contingents will be settled next to the Lithuanian Air Force's display.

History will be among the main highlights of the event just like usual: a reconstruction of a guerrilla fighters' bunker, their weaponry, and living conditions will be represented.
