Girgensons not expected to return to NHL action this season

BC, Riga, 27.03.2015.Print version

The head coach of the NHL's Buffalo ''Sabres'' Ted Nolan is not expecting Latvian forward Zemgus Girgensons to return to action this season, the coach told the local radio station ''WGR 550'', cites LETA.

Girgensons has been out with an ankle injury since February 24, when he was struck in the ankle with a puck.

Even though it was initially predicted that Girgensons would be back in action within two weeks, Nolan later said that he is not so certain anymore whether the Latvian All-Star will suit up for the ''Sabres'' this season.

In 61 NHL games for the ''Sabres'' so far this season, Girgensons has scored 15 goals and made 15 assists.

The ''Sabres'', who are out of the playoff hunt, have 10 more regular season games this season.

It is also not yet known whether Girgensons' injury will force him to sit out this year's Ice Hockey World Championships.

It is interesting to points out that the head coach of the ''Sabres'' Ted Nolan is also the former head coach of the Latvian national men's ice hockey team, while the team's goalies coach Arturs Irbe is a former Latvian national team goalie.
