Estonian Reform Party ruled out cooperation with EKRE

BC, Tallinn, 04.03.2015.Print version

Secretary General of the Estonian Reform Party Martin Kukk announced on Wednesday their party ruled out coalition talks with the Estonian Conservative People's Party (EKRE), due to the scandal that erupted yesterday around a fascism-justifying blog posting of one of its new MPs, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

"I informed today Martin Helme (board member of EKRE – ed.), that we will not hold consultations with them," said Kukk.

Kukk said that cooperation with EKRE was ruled out by the opinions expressed on fascism by EKRE's new MP Jaak Madison. "For us, the statements of EKRE member Madison are unacceptable and EKRE should also condemn them," said Kukk.

EKRE, which got 7 seats in the new Estonian Riigikogu at the Sunday elections, found itself in the midst of a scandal on Tuesday when blog postings of EKRE member and new MP Jaak Madison (24) from a couple of years ago came to light, in which he pointed out the positive sides of fascism and Nazism.
