BC, Vilnius, 27.02.2015.Print version

On Independence Day, 11 March 2015, the Lithuanian Nationalist Youth Union and the Lithuanian Nationalist Centre will hold a traditional march from Vilnius Cathedral to the Seimas, informs LETA/ELTA.

The organisations published a statement saying that Vilnius City Municipality was addressed on 9 February requesting for permission to hold the march, but it has not been granted yet. According to Julius Panka, leader of the Lithuanian Nationalist Union and the Lithuanian Nationalist Youth Union, the event will take place regardless of whether a permit is received. Unauthorised nationalists' event was held in 2013, whereas in 2014 the municipality granted permission.

This year numerous participants from abroad are expected to visit. Panka told ELTA news agency that Ukraine's Right Sector representatives were invited, as well as right-wing activists from Latvia, Estonia, Belarus and Great Britain.

Members of motorcycle clubs will ride ahead of the procession. Participants intend to deliver speeches and sing the national anthem outside the Parliament building.

In 2015 Lithuania marks the 25th anniversary of independence which was declared on 11 March 1990.
