BC, Vilnius, 26.01.2015.Print version

On Monday evening, 26 January, victims of the attack on Mariupol, which occurred on 24 January, will be commemorated outside the Seimas in Vilnius, reports LETA/ELTA.

People are invited to bring candles which will be lit and placed forming the name of port city Mariupol. Afterwards a procession will walk from the Seimas to the Embassy of Ukraine where candles will be lit as well.

As reported, a rocket barrage on Ukrainian city Mariupol left 30 people dead and at least 95 wounded. According to Kiev, pro-Russian fighters used Grad multiple rocket launcher systems and fired on the market and residential areas. However separatists themselves denied their responsibility and called the accusations disinformation.

Mariupol Mayor's Office says the situation is now stable in the city.

Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko had announced Sunday a day of mourning in Ukraine. The deadly attack was condemned by United States Secretary of State John Kerry, who urged the international community to strengthen sanctions against Russia which has been supporting fighters in eastern Ukraine.

On Lithuania's request, the United Nations Security Council will convene to discuss the situation in Ukraine.
