Having triumphed Friday in the two-man bodsled competition, pilot Oskars Melbardis proved himself equally able in the FIBT World Cup (Stage Two) four-man battle Saturday in Calgary, reports LETA.

Melbardis was way ahead of his opponents after the first run, and finished the day 0.17 seconds ahead of Germany’s Francesco Friedrich. The Germany-I bob, driven by Maximilian Arndt, was third.

Latvia’s red letter day was somewhat marred by the nasty spill suffered by the Latvia-II bob in the first run, which knocked the team out of competition.

World Cup Stage Two also had a historic first – women commandeering bobs for Canada and the U.S. They finished 15th and 16th overall.
