In women's javelin throw in Beijing today, Sinta Ozolina set a new record for Latvia and qualified for the competition's finals, which will take place on Thursday, informs LETA.

Ozolina participated in qualifying round's group A and threw 60.13 meters already in her first attempt, setting a new record for Latvia. The previous Latvia's record in women's javelin throw – 59.97 meters, was set by Inga Kozarenoka in 2005.

Ozolina fouled her second try, but in her last throw she hit the 52.62 meters mark and stayed seventh in her group.

Among all the athletes, who participated in the qualifying rounds, Ozolina took 12th place and thus moves on to the finals, which will start on Thursday, at 2:20 p.m. Latvian time.

It is the first time that Ozolina participates in the Olympic Games. She qualified for the Beijing Olympics on July 21, 2007, winning the silver medal at the European Junior Championships and meeting the Olympic normative B – 57.01 meters.
