The anniversary of the Ukrainian Maidan movement will be marked on Friday evening in the Independence Square in Vilnius, informs LETA/ELTA.

The Maidan movement and the Revolution of Dignity started a year ago in Ukraine when the Ukrainian journalist Mustafa Nayyem called indifferent citizens to gather in the main square of Kyiv to express their disapproval at the decision made in the Vilnius Summit by the then Ukrainian president not to sign the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union.

During the symbolic action in the Vilnius' Independence Square, candles will be lit and create the shape of the Ukrainian coat of arms, the Tryzub (Trident), as a symbol of solidarity.

Meanwhile, a thousand people will attend a demonstration in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, to commemorate the first anniversary of Maidan. Volunteer battalions opposing Kyiv's policies will also gather. Therefore, security in the Ukrainian capital has been tightened.
