Agnes Varda to accept European Film Academy Lifetime Achievement Award in Riga

French director and screenwriter Agnes Varda will be honored with the European Film Academy's Lifetime Achievement Award in Riga, reports LETA.

 

The European Film Academy Awards ceremony will be held in Riga on December 13.

 

Varda has a significant role in French, European and modern world cinema. Her very first film, "La Pointe Courte" (1954) was not widely screened, but it signalled a personal style, and placed her at the forefront of French "New Wave" cinema. Her 1961 "Cleo from 5 to 7" took the Critics' Prize at Cannes.

 

She has won numerous awards including the "Silver Bear" for "Happiness" (1965), "Golden Lion" for "Vagabond" (1985), European Film Academy Award for "The Gleaners and I" (2000), and the "César" for " The Beaches of Agnes" (2008).

 

The director has created more than 30 short films, documentaries, and feature films.

 

While in Riga, Varda will participate in the public screening of her films December 12 in the movie theater "Splendid Palace".
