Gulbis concludes most successful season of his career

BC, Riga, 24.10.2014.Print version

Latvia's top-ranked tennis player Ernests Gulbis will not compete in any more tournament in 2014, thus concluding the most successful season of his career, informs LETA.

Thus, Gulbis will not play in next week's Paris ''Masters 1000'' series tennis tournament, which is the final ATP tournament of the season.

This season, the 26-year-old Gulbis made it into the Top 10 in the ATP men's singles rankings for the first time in his career, and is currently ranked 13th.

Gulbis surged in the ranking after a successful run at this year's French Open, where he lost to Serbia's Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals.

However, Gulbis' season went a bit downhill after the French Open, as his best performances were reaching the semi-finals of the Kuala Lumpur and Moscow ATP ''250 Series'' tennis tournament.

Gulbis also won two ATP ''250 Series'' tournaments this season in Nice and Marseilles. Gulbis has won a total of six ATP tournaments in his career.

This past September, while participating at the Kuala Lumpur ATP tournament in Malaysia, Gulbis also surpassed the USD 5 million mark in career earnings.

This season, Gulbis won 41 out of 62 of his ATP matches, which is also a personal best for him.
