Gulbis loses to Agut in Kremlin Cup semifinals

Latvia's top-ranked tennis player Ernests Gulbis lost to Roberto Bautista Agut (Spain) 6-4, 6-4 in the Kremlin Cup semifinals on Satirday, informs LETA.

 

Agut converted a triple break point already in the first game. All the subsequent games in the first set were won by the server. Agut then broke Gulbis' serve in the seventh game of the second set, and Gulbis was unable to break back, losing the match 4-6, 4-6.

 

This season, Gulbis has played in seven ATP tournament's semifinals and two final matches.

 

Gulbis is currently ranked 13th in the ATP rankings, whereas Agut is ranked 16th.

 

Gulbis, who had a first-round bye, defeated Spain's Daniel Gimeno-Traver 6-3, 7-6 in the second round of the Moscow tournament to advance to the quarterfinals, where he beat Italy's Andreas Seppi 7-6, 4-6, 7-6.

 

Gulbis has earned 90 ATP ranking points for advancing to the Moscow tournament's semifinals.
