The Latvian National Opera (LNO) started its season with a new production of Giuseppe Verdi's opera "Rigoletto", Aiga Sprindza, the spokesperson of LNO, informed LETA.

The opera's director – Margo Zalite, says she has been inspired by Latvia, which, just as Rigoletto's daughter Gilda, has experienced serious hardships but retains a sunny demeanor. As Gilda, one of Europe's leading coloratura sopranos, Olga Pudova, will take the stage. She modestly says she is pleased to have been chosen for the role.

Gilda in future performances will be the popular Inga Slubovska, and a new singer, Julija Vasiljeva, both in this role for the first time.

Samsons Izjumovs, who portrayed Rigoletto in LNO's production of 1987, will come alive once again. In future performances, Armands Silins will debut as Rigoletto.

The Duke will be Albanian tenor Rame Lahaj, as well as Raimonds Bramanis, who will debut in this role.
