Culmination of Black Arrow 2014 in Lithuania – airborne landing, assault on objects controlled by adversary

The largest in 2014 tactical field exercise Black Arrow 2014 of the Mechanised Infantry Brigade (MIB) Iron Wolf involving approximately 1.5 thousand Lithuanian and US military personnel is at the run-in. On May 22 the major training event will be crowned by a joint airborne landing and assault on enemy objects operation executed by Lithuanian soldiers and NATO allies – US paratroopers, the Ministry of National Defence informs.

 

During the final operation of Exercise Black Arrow 2014 reconnaissance personnel of the MIB Iron Wolf and soldiers of the 173rd Airborne Brigade of the US Army in Europe (USAREUR) will conduct parachute jumps into an area controlled by hostile forces. The paratroopers will regroup and with support from other Lithuanian brigade's units will assault the designated objects seeking to neutralise the enemy secured there and to take over control of the objects.

 

Over 100 Lithuanian and US exercise participants will be involved in the operation.


The operation is expected to be observed by Minister of National Defence Juozas Olekas, Commander of the Lithuanian Land Force Major General Almantas Leika, commanders of other services of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, leadership of participating military units, representatives of the US Embassy in Lithuania, defence attaches accredited to Lithuania, Mayor of Jonava Mindaugas Sinkevicius, and other guests.
